Stop Talking About Hillary and Obama, And Tell Me How To Get Rid of My Back Pain!

Becoming pain free is not easy.  Especially after you have been diagnosed with a Disc Herniation, Degenerative Disc, Spinal Stenosis, or Sciatica.  With your permission, let me take you on an exciting guided tour of what’s working—and not working—in the treatment of back and neck pain today.

How Do YOU Know if You Have a Disc Herniation?

The most common symptoms that a disc herniation will cause you to suffer from are:

  • Back or Neck Pain/Stiffness
  • Pain into the arms/hands or legs/feet
  • Numbness or Tingling in the arms/hands or legs/feet
  • Surprisingly, you can have a disc herniation with NO PAIN AT ALL!

All of the above symptoms could indicate that you have a disc herniation, but the only way to tell is by a thorough examination and possible x-rays, CT Scan, or MRI to fully diagnose the herniation.  The exciting news is that all of these symptoms are correctable, so read on.

How Did I Get a Disc Herniation?

Disc herniations can be caused by many factors, but it can be simplified down to two categories.  You could have injured your disc over time with repetitive trauma (working on assembly line, lifting heavy items, sitting/standing all day).  The second way that you can injure your disc is by a traumatic accident such as a slip, fall, or car accident.

Considering Surgery?

If you are experiencing Bowel or Bladder problems…go to the emergency room RIGHT NOW!  It may be a condition known as cauda equina syndrome and surgery will save your life.  If that is not the case…then you may be off the hook.

Surgery is a LAST RESORT.  You may still be able to avoid it.  Studies have shown that the long-term results of surgery may not be worth it.  In one study by Dvorak, he notes that 70% of patients that received surgery for disc herniations had the same or worse pain after the surgery.  You must decide for yourself if that is a risk that you are willing to take with your body.

I’ve Tried It All, What Else is There?

As a Chiropractor, you would expect me to say “Chiropractic!”  But, I have a confession to make.  I have studied all of the research and options out there, and Chiropractic is NOT always the best choice.  I have found exactly 7 options available to treat disc herniations, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, and sciatica…some good and some bad.  I do not have time to go into the details of each one here in this short column.  You must make sure you do your research before trying any treatment options!

If you would like to know the details of each treatment available for disc herniations, disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, and sciatica you are entitled to one of two FREE seminars on Monday, February 11th.  At this free seminar you will be given all of the research and statistics so that you don’t have to research every treatment option on your own.  You will be guided through this complicated subject of back pain, and will come out with a full understanding of what you can do to be pain FREE again!
